TRUST AND OBEY

The very first temptation in the Garden of Eden was not random. It was strategic, layered, and targeted at the whole human being. Let's slow down and examine Genesis 3:6. Here, we discover that Eve was not simply tempted to eat; she was engaged in a mental, physical, and spiritual battle all at once.

What happened to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is the same thing that is happening to us today. This is why the subject of food, appetite, and temperance is far deeper than diet; it is about trust in God and mastery of the entire person.

🌿 The Four-Dimensional Attack in the Garden

In Genesis 3:6, the progression is striking:

  • “She saw that the tree was good for food…”Visual stimulation

  • “…pleasant to the eyes…”Emotional/mental attraction

  • “…a tree to be desired to make one wise…”Spiritual deception

  • “…she took…and did eat.”Physical action

Eve didn’t fall instantly; she was walked through a process.

🧠Mentally Attacked

Before Eve ever touched the fruit, her mind was engaged and influenced.

The serpent (Satan) planted doubt:

  • “Hath God said…?”

This was the seed of confusion. Once the mind accepts error, the body eventually follows. The battle for health, therefore, always begins in the mind.

Today, this happens through:

  • Cravings shaped by advertising

  • Misinformation about food

  • Emotional eating

If the mind is not guarded, choices become compromised.

🩺 Physically Attacked

“She saw… she took… she ate.”

The body became the vehicle of disobedience.

What entered through the mouth affected:

  • Her physical condition

  • Her genetic future

  • The entire human race

This reveals something profound:
What we eat is never neutral—it either builds or breaks down the body.

This is why appetite is often the enemy’s first line of attack. If he can control his appetite, he can weaken:

  • Willpower

  • Clarity

  • Discipline

Spiritually Attacked

“A tree to be desired to make one wise…”

This was the deepest level. Eve was led to believe:

  • She could gain something better than what God provided

  • She could elevate herself outside of divine instruction

This is the essence of spiritual deception:
choosing self over God’s design

🔥 Parallel with Christ’s Temptation

After 40 days of fasting, Jesus Christ faced the same three-fold attack:

  1. Physical (Appetite)
    “Turn these stones into bread”

  2. Mental (Presumption/Testing God)
    “Cast yourself down…”

  3. Spiritual (Worship/Allegiance)
“All these kingdoms will I give you…”

Where Eve fell, Christ stood firm.

Why is this important?

Because it proves:
👉 Victory over appetite is foundational to victory in every area of life

🌱 Exodus 15:26 — God’s Health Principle

This verse is one of the clearest health promises in Scripture:

“If thou wilt diligently hearken… and do that which is right… I will put none of these diseases upon thee…”

This is not just a promise—it is a principle of prevention.

Health is preserved when we:

  • Listen (mental alignment)

  • Obey (spiritual alignment)

  • Practice (physical alignment)

⚖️ The Call to Temperance

Temperance is not restriction—it is right balance and self-governance.

It means:

  • Eating what is good

  • Avoiding what is harmful

  • Exercising control over appetite

Uncontrolled appetite:

  • Clouds the mind

  • Weakens the body

  • Dulls spiritual sensitivity

But disciplined living:

  • Sharpens thinking

  • Strengthens the body

  • Deepens spiritual connection

💡 The Big Revelation

The first fall came through disobedience in food misuse.
The second Adam (Christ) overcame, beginning with a strong desire to obey His Father's will in all things, including food discipline.

That is not a coincidence, it is an instruction to bring life..

👉 What we eat affects how we think
👉 How we think affects what we choose
👉 What we choose determines who we become

🚨 Call to Action

Guard the three gates of your life:

  • Mind → Be aware of what influences your thinking

  • Body → Select foods that sustain life, not harm it

  • Spirit → Align your choices with God’s plan

Start today:

  • Pause before you eat—ask, “Does this build or break me?”

  • Choose whole, natural foods more often

  • Practice restraint, not impulse

Because the same strategy used in Eden is still in play today…

But so is the power to overcome.
